General Info

The Florida CILB licensure categories are broken down into two divisions:

Division 1 includes General, Building and Residential Contractors.

Division 2 includes Mechanical, Class A Air Conditioning, Class B Air Conditioning, Glass and Glazing, Roofing, Sheet Metal, Commercial Pool/Spa, Residential Pool/Spa, Pool/Spa Servicing, Plumbing, Solar, Underground Utility, Pollutant Storage Systems, Gypsum Drywall Specialty, Specialty Structure, and Gas Line Specialty Contractors.

Division 1 examinations have three parts: Business and Finance, Contract Administration, and Project Management.

Division 2 examinations have two parts: Business and Finance, and Trade Knowledge.

Reciprocity

Florida does not have any reciprocity agreements with other states. Out-of-state contractors are required to pass the Florida examination for certification. There is a provision for certification by endorsement; however, it requires that the applicant demonstrate that his/her out-of-state license was issued, in part, based upon an examination that is substantially equivalent to Florida's examination.
