NOTICE:  We believe that the two fire alarm books (#2 and 4) listed in the bulletin for this exam are in error.  Neither the exam content or scope of work (republished above) include any fire or burglar alarm content, these two books don't belong.  We advise that you contact ProV before buying these books to verify that they are actually required.

NOTE:  The ProV exam bulletin may not have not been updated to show that the 16th Edition of reference #1 is out-of-print and replaced by the 17th edition.

The books listed below are NOT allowed at the exam location

Ferm's Fast Finder Index, 2017, IAEI

Tom Henry's Key Word Index, 2017, Tom Henry

We recommend that you purchase one of the reference books above to study for your exam.  Each book is a comprehensive subject index to the NEC.  They provide an even faster way to look up answers in the code and are far more detailed than the index at the end of the code book.

Ugly's Electrical References, 2017, Jones & Bartlett Learning
Buy at Amazon
Blueprint Reading for Electricians, 3rd Edition, Rob Zachariason
Buy at Amazon

Ugly's References contain practical applications of the NEC such as Ohm‘s Law, series/parallel circuits, voltage drop, load calculations, motor phases, impediance, inductance and math formulas you are expected to know.  “Basic Knowledge” and “Electrical Calculations” are subjects covered in the exam and are assumed (most likely not listed as a subject for electrical and mechanical exams of all types).
