Exam Content

The Oregon licensing division does not publish a list of subjects covered in the exam like many other states.  The button below will open a basic exam content study guide we have created to help you navigate the many references listed in the allowed books:

Scope of Work

Authorized to install, maintain, and repair all electrical wiring and equipment governed by the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code (OESC). This includes work on residential, commercial, and industrial systems such as services, feeders, and branch circuits.

Performs electrical work in compliance with the NEC, Oregon amendments, and applicable laws and rules. Work must be performed under the supervision of a properly licensed supervising electrician where required.

This license permits full participation in electrical installation and maintenance activities but does not include authority to supervise electrical work or assume responsibility for overall code compliance.

About reference(s) 8 above. These two books have the same function but there are differences;  Reference 8a is more instructional, includes practice questions, explainations and limited calculation help, better for learning the code.  Reference 8b has more dense/comprehensive indexing and focuses on multiple paths to the same topic, has minimal explanations, better for speed during exams and finding obscure or oddly-worded questions.  We advise buying one or the other based on your needs and the info provided here.

NOTICE:  OAR 918 references the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).  You do not need to study this code because it only applies to utility work.

Additional Recommended Books
