QUESTION: “What is the difference between the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the NEC Handbook (both published by NFPA)?”. The Handbook has the same content as the Code book with additional drawings and explainations inserted.
The Handbook was designed for engineers and inspectors and the typical exam candidate should not need to use it as a reference.
We highly recommend that you purchase one of the two NEC index books above to study for your exam. Each book is a comprehensive subject index to the NEC. They provide an even faster way to look up answers in the code and are far more detailed than the index at the end of the code book.
Sample questions are available for the book titles highlighted in light green above.
Based on the 4th Edition for Plumbers, Conditioned Air, Low Voltage, Electrical and Utility Contractors.
